On April 13, 2004 Tuesday Youth Voice of Turkey had its 2nd Meeting in Ankara at World Bank premises. Twenty-three youth leaders came to discuss Turkish youth’s problems with World Bank staff. Portfolio bags with the Turkish Youth Voices logo was given to all participants.

 Andrew Vorkink in Q&A session

In the opening session Country Director Andrew Vorkink expressed the importance of youth as they will be the leaders of future. "The World Bank would like to exchange ideas with Turkish youth and increase the participation of community in policy making stage" Mr. Vorkink added. After that, Mr. Vorkink replied the questions of Youth Voice members.

Marie-Hélène Bricknell

Country Manager Marie-Hélène Bricknell made a presentation about the Bank’s Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) for fiscal year 2004-06. World Bank’s role and activities in Turkey was clarified in the minds of the participants, who, however, asked very penetrating questions.
The "White Plate Seminar’s" speaker was Simon Mordue, First Secretary (Head of Financial Co-operation & Co-ordination of Investment Section) for the Representation of the European Commission to Turkey. Mr. Mordue discussed EU Enlargement and the challenges ahead of Turkey.
The event of the day was video-conference with Mr. James D. Wolfensohn, President of World Bank. Youth Voice of Turkey made a seven minute presentation covering the problems of youth in Turkey, what should youth do and how can World Bank assist these activities. Peru, Egypt and Ethiopia Youth Voices groups had also made presentations.

In the evening World Bank hosted a dinner at Dafne Restaurant with Country Manager Marie-Hélène Bricknell, John Innes, and Arsev Umur Aydinoglu.
