Youth Voices Group of Turkey organized second “Youth, Employment and Entrepreneurship” one-day seminar in cooperation with Bitlis Youth Assembly and Tatvan Municipality in Tatvan (a district of Bitlis) on October 13, 2006.
One of major aims of this seminar was to create a platform for young people to learn how to get assistance and services from various employment agencies in Turkey in terms of finding jobs and to learn what kind of entrepreneurship opportunities are offered by programmes and projects implemented by these agencies in Turkey.
Around 200 participants composed of mainly young people and students from Tatvan and Bitlis had chance to get information on services of Turkey Employment Agency (İŞ-KUR), Small and Medium Sized Industry Development Organization (KOSGEB) and to learn about youth employment and entrepreneurship in separate panel sessions.
After the opening speeches of Ferhat Gök (Youth Voices of Turkey), Mehmet Emin Peker (Tatvan Mayor), Osman Hacıbektaşoğlu (District Governor of Tatvan), John Innes (World Bank Country Sector Coordinator), and Mevlüt Atbaş (Bitlis Governor), Duygu Karaoğlu (Youth Voices of Turkey) made a brief presentation on the activities of Youth Voices Group in Turkey.
Deniz Kartal from İŞ-KUR Directorate General took part as a speaker in a morning panel session which was run by Youth Voices member, Hüsnü Şahan Güran provided information on “services and activities of İŞ-KUR towards youth employment” .
“What kind of skills and experiences are required for being a entrepreneur?, What type of opportunities are available for young entrepreneurs through KOSGEB projects? How can a young person benefit from Enterprise Development Centers (İŞGEM)? ” were some of the questions answered by Şakir Can from Van provincial directorate of KOSGEB and Özgür Başkale (who run his own enterprise within Van Enterprise Development Center) in the afternoon session chaired by Youth Voices member, Özüm Tepetaş.
In the last session, participants were given chance to provide feedbacks on the seminar and to make recommendations for future seminars taking place in different cities.
