Youth Voices Group of Turkey organized third “Youth, Employment and Entrepreneurship” one-day seminar in cooperation with Cukurova Forum and Cukurova University on November 03, 2006.
One of major aims of this seminar was to create a platform for young people to learn how to get assistance and services from various employment agencies in Turkey in terms of finding jobs and to learn what kind of entrepreneurship opportunities are offered by programmes and projects implemented by these agencies in Turkey.
Around 150 participants composed of mainly students from Cukurova University had chance to get information on services of Turkey Employment Agency (İŞ-KUR), Small and Medium Sized Industry Development Organization (KOSGEB) and to learn about youth employment and entrepreneurship in separate panel sessions.
After the opening speeches of Özüm Tepetaş, Youth Voices of Turkey, and Dilan Demirci, manager of Cukurova Forum, Duygu Karaoğlu made a brief presentation on the activities of Youth Voices Group in Turkey.
Deniz Kartal from Turkey Employment Agency (İŞ-KUR) Directorate General took part as a speaker in a morning panel session which was moderated by Youth Voices member, Adnan Fatin Kobazoğlu and provided information on “services and activities of İŞ-KUR towards youth employment”.
“What kind of skills and experiences are required for being a entrepreneur?, What type of opportunities are available for young entrepreneurs through KOSGEB projects? How can a young person benefit from Enterprise Development Centers (İŞGEM) and Technology Development Centers (TEK-MER)?” were some of the questions answered by Hamit Sucu, KOSGEB Adana Provincial Director in the afternoon session chaired by Youth Voices member, Ferhat Gök. Moreover, two entrepreneurs who established their own businesses through KOSGEB support programmes within Adana İŞGEM shared their entrepreneurship experiences with the participants.
Ibrahim Inan who is lecturer in Cukurova University led an interactive session mainly about business environment linked with self-development of young people.
In the last session, participants were given chance to provide feedbacks on the seminar and to make recommendations for future seminars taking place in different cities.
